Setting up of temporary schools in Thakhek

(KPL) At least one thousand students in Thakhek district, Khammouane province, have to study in temporary shelters as their schools have been flooded.
Head of the Education office of Thakhek district, Mr Bounhom, said on 22 August that five primary schools would not be able to welcome its pupils for the new academic term as they were flooded.
He said that the village authorities were frantically looking for alternative places, one of which are temples, to serve as temporary schools.
They wanted to be sure, he said, when the new term opens in September they would be able to accommodate the pupils at such places so that they would be able to enjoy an uninterrupted period of study.
As part of the preparation, he asked the district education office to send education materials to flood-hit schools, such as books, teaching aids, blackboards and chalk.
The students in the first and second year of primary school would be getting 23,700 copies of the updated and revised text-books from the Ministry of Education, and so at no cost to them, said Mr Bounhom.
