Laos pledges support for Vietnamese investors
(KPL) Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh pledged to offer favourable conditions to Vietnamese investors and the objective was to foster investment cooperation between the two countries. When he met the Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment, Vo Hong Phuc in Vientiane Capital on August 11, the PM spoke highly of Vietnam’s approval for the establishment of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Investment Encouragement Association. He said, “ I hope the association would provide consultancy services to the Ministries of Planning and Investment of the three countries and thereby act as a catalyst for Vietnamese investors to invest in the two neighbouring countries. Minister Phuc said Vietnamese investors are eyeing investments in power, mining and tree plantations in Laos. They were interested, he added in constructing hydropower plants in northern Laos and other projects in the Lao-Vietnam border areas. During the four-day visit, 10-13 August, the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s delegation discussed with their Lao counterpart on the development of measures to boost Vietnam-Laos investment cooperation and how to overcome any barrier to the joint cooperation.
