Robbers assault and badly injure abbot
(KPL) Two robbers assaulted an abbot when they were trying to rob the priceless Buddha antiques from Phonekung Temple, Champassak province some days ago. According to Mr Cheng Thavi, Deputy Head of the Investigation and Examination Department of the police force in Champassak province, the robbers badly injured Abbot Bounma. He related the robbery to the press, “This incident occurred at 10.00 o’clock at night. As the robbers knew exactly where the precious antiques were kept, they scaled up the wall of the warehouse and managed to reach its window. They entered the place and tried to steal the precious antiques. But, the abbot was sleeping in this warehouse and happened to become aware of the intention of the robbers. This made him raise the alarm and he called aloud for help.” “The two robbers became frightened and reacted by hitting the monk violently. Then, they ran, jumped out of the window and continued to run away from the scene,” said Mr Cheng. Speaking to the press he said that a day later, police officers arrested Mr Vong, 19, who was suspected by the police to be one of the two who tried to carry out the heist. The other person, whom the police suspected to be Mr Vong’s accomplice took to his feet and escaped from the police, added Mr Cheng. In July this year, there were nine cases of robbery and smuggling in this village, said the police chief.
