PM orders local authorities to help flood victims
(KPL) Thousands of hectares of farmlands and livestock in many districts in provinces have been affected by the flooding and flood victims lacked clean water to consume.
Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh and the Flood and Drought Prevention Committee between 16 and 17 August rushed to inspect the affected areas of Hardsaifong district in Vientiane capital, and the central provinces of Khammouane and Borikhamsay that were badly flooded.
PM Bouasone ordered local authorities to set up aid relief centres and patrol units at district and village levels to monitor and help flood victims and the injured. He also urged local medical staff to render help to people.
Preparation of relief aid packages is under way. The relief aid includes foodstuffs, drinking water and medicine. Preparations also involve the construction of temporary markets in flood areas.
On 17 August, the Prime Minister also visited three districts of Nongbok, Se Bangfay and Hinboun, Khammouane provinces, where over 1,000 hectares of farmland, and 17 schools and houses were inundated.
On the same day, the PM toured Borikhamsay province where three districts of Park Kading, Paksan and Thaphabath were flooded, which covered 44 villages and 3,009 victim families, with over 5,600 people have suffered from flooding.
It estimated over 13,000 hectares of farmland were flooded while 150 cows, 40 buffaloes, and 290 pigs and 1,700 poultries died.
The PM gave directives to provincial leading officials to pay attention to the living conditions of flood victims based on local realities and to provide help for flood victims that are not accessible.
