Luang Namtha accelerates to develop tourism as main means for social-economic development

(KPL) The northern province of Luang Namtha is continuing to improve, develop and expand its tourism sector. This is to response to the increased number of tourists that reached 60,000 people in the first six months of this year and generated about US$ 1.7 million.
Mr. Khamlai Sipaseuth, Director General of the Tourism Office of Luang Namtha province, disclosed that so far 62 tourist sites have been opened which are divided into four categories: natural tourism, cultural tourism, historical tourism and eco-tourism. He said that local people had contributed to the development of the tourist sites, which create income and improve the living condition of local people.
Mr. Khamlai added that in the future the province would continue to develop its tourist sites and improve the organisation of the tourism sector in rural areas and try to solicit assistance from domestic and foreign sources to develop tourist sites, especially those located along the Road No. R3.
He also concluded that the Luang Namtha province plans to build the cultural ethnic park, integrate the tourism with other provinces in the northern part by land, river and air.
