Japan extends emergency relief assistance to Laos for flood disaster

(KPL) The Government of Japan has decided to provide the emergency relief packages (water purifiers, water tanks, blankets, tents and sleeping pads), equivalent about 12 million yen (US$ 111 thousand), to the Government of the Lao PDR, according to press release of Japanese Embassy last Friday.
The relief package was to respond to the Lao Government’s appeal for assistance and cooperation in flood mitigation and emergency response effort, from a humanitarian viewpoint and in light of the friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and Lao PDR.
This has been conveyed to Lieutenant General Douangchay Phichit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, by Mr. Masaaki Miyashita, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR at the Ministry of Nation Defense on 22 August.
Vientiane Capital, as well as Vientiane, Khammouane, Bolikhamsay provinces, at present, are suffered from serious problems including drinking-water shortage caused by unusable wells and lack of shelters for the victims. The Government of Lao PDR has therefore requested emergency relief assistance to the Government of Japan, while making its utmost efforts to support those in need.
The Embassy of Japan hopes that this assistance will be helpful as an emergency relief for the Government and the people of Lao PDR.
