Savannakhet export hits record
(KPL) Central province of Savannakhet exports rose 77.7 % over the past nine months to a record US$568.3 million driven by gold, copper and wood products. However the import surged 99 % to a record US$303.5 million. According to Mr Pholithat Thikhammee, Deputy Head of Industry and Commerce Division of Savannakhet province last week, the export and import over the past nine months was good environment. Main export market of Savannakhet province were Vietnam and Thailand which covered 35.3 % with a record US$201 million and 31.3 % for Thailand with a record US$179 million and other country respectively. At the same time, the import rose US$303.5 million in which US$158.1 million of Thailand or 52 % and US$44.7 million of Vietnam with a record 14.7 %. This figure saw Savannakhet province has had a trade surplus valued at US$264.8 million or about 87.2 % surplus rate. Savannakhet province has had a trade surplus is attributed to the strong provincial commerce development which driven by gold and copper with worth US$413.8 million or 72.8 % and wood products was US$ 8.1 million accounting for 1.4 %. Majority import was fuel covered by 12 % worth US$37.1 million. According to provincial effort annual plan, the province is to set export value at US$755.3 million which exceeds 13.3 % of plan while the import value is set about US$656.8 million or set to be surplus 145.5 %.
