Medals awarded to flood fighters

(KPL) President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Choummaly Sayasone expressed his appreciation to all residents of Vientiane Capital for their dedication and hard work in the recent battle of flood prevention.
Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, members of the cabinet and representatives from the various government bodies attended the event, held at Donchane Palace Hotel on 22 August.
At this function, President Choummaly spoke of the continuous threat of natural disasters in the world, that it caused the loss of property and human lives and even threatened the existence of certain communities on our planet.
He also mentioned that Vientiane did suffer from flood since 1966, but for this year, the water level rose to a higher level over the past years and yet it failed to flood Vientiane.
“This was because of the preventive measures that the Vientiane residents had taken,” he added.
Also addressing the ceremony, Mr Sombath Yialiheu, Party Committee Secretary of Vientiane, said he too appreciated the determined efforts put in by the people of Vientiane Capital in the fight against the encroaching flood water.
In recognition of the efforts put in by the various organisations, the National Committee on Natural Disasters presented certificates to outstanding organisations and individuals.
President Choummaly and Prime Minister Bouasone presented the medals personally.
